PIVOTING-POWERING UP FROM THE GROUND
What can you tell about this photo other than a double dose of Mr. Drew? That's right, the front leg requires a pivot.
When you're talking power in striking, the devil is in the details. Want a wicked punch with wicked torque? Look to your feet.
Integration of the movement is of utmost importance. Think of pushing a sled: can you generate power with your heels down or off the floor? Heels up and pointed back of course.
Now think of generating a punch: torque comes from pushing off the floor into a parasagittal (parallel to the spine) plane of your hip AND shoulder as the punch generates.
So think about it your jab:
HAND leads the motion of combative
SHOULDERS AND HIPS drive through the pivot for torque
BURSTING contributes to the power.
Get these in line, and you got yourself a power punch.
Enjoy this video of Mr. Drew's creativity.
Do what is hard today, do the impossible tomorrow
